Defining Product Placement

Product placement, also known as embedded marketing, is a subtle form of advertising, refers to including products in movies or television.  Sometimes the product is used by the characters, talked about, or just placed in the background.

Product placement has become increasingly popular due to more households using DVR's, and as a result, skipping TV commercials.

It is not limited to products, however.  Other examples of items used for product placement are: artists, TV stations, TV shows, characters, people, and stores.
